How trend analysis can lead to bigger returns
Recently, a client came to us and asked what they could do to increase the buyback value on their used mobile devices.
e-Cycle stepped in and took a look at their historical buyback trends plus their current upgrade policy.
The client was currently operating under a "replace devices only when absolutely necessary" policy, instead of upgrading their fleet on a regular time frame (every 2-3 years for example). This meant that when it came time to send those end of life phones for buyback, they were getting very little money back due mostly in part to the age of the devices. Older devices do not have nearly as much of a monetary return as newer ones.
e-Cycle analyzed the numbers to show how much money they could have received back had they sent their devices in for buyback 3 years, 2 years, or even 1 year earlier. The client took this information and compared it to the cost of upgrading their fleet every few years. What they found was the increase in buyback value when sending in sooner, combined with heavily discounted upgrade costs from the major carriers, meant that they would be saving money by upgrading their fleet every 3 years instead of waiting until absolutely necessary.
Plus they also considered that as their mobile fleet aged, their operating systems and security features were becoming outdated. This could make them more vulnerable to hacking and malware attacks. Additionally, they realized these older devices may not be able to run the latest security updates, leaving them exposed to known security vulnerabilities.
