e-Cycle LLC presented an $18,901 check to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Mid-Ohio Chapter as a result of the company’s “e-Cycle for Type 1 Diabetes” campaign held from Nov. 15 through the 23, 2011. e-Cycle donated $1 for every mobile phone the company purchased or recycled during the week.

Christopher Irion, e-Cycle founder and father of a daughter diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, said the goal of the promotion was to raise awareness and support for two causes that are close to his heart—America Recycles Day (Nov. 15) and American Diabetes Month (November). Irion said he also wanted to show the potential that wireless buyback and recycling holds as a new revenue stream for charitable organizations.

“The entire e-Cycle team is extremely proud to present this donation to JDRF and we are excited that we were able to raise this much money in only seven days,” Irion said. “But our contribution only scratches the surface of the potential that mobile buyback and recycling offers as a viable new revenue stream for charitable organizations.”

Irion added, since 2005, e-Cycle has donated more than $1 million to various U.S. charities from proceeds raised through corporate mobile buyback, and that much more can be raised if enterprises can make mobile recycling a part of their corporate caring strategy. e-Cycle pays businesses and organizations between $1 and $280 dollars for each mobile device that can be reused, and recycles all other devices and accessories at no cost to make certain they do not end up in landfills. According to Irion, wireless mobile buyback offers a unique way for organizations to give back to the community without impacting their bottom line.

“This donation will fund life-saving research that will benefit everyone with type 1 diabetes, not only those in the Central Ohio area but across the country as well,” said JDRF Mid-Ohio Chapter Executive Director Cathy Paessun. “This one-week effort demonstrates the powerful impact corporations can have in terms of raising money and awareness of the need to fund research to cure, treat and prevent this insidious disease. The Irions know first hand that a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes is life-changing for the entire family. We appreciate their bringing not just their personal efforts to fund a cure but putting the resources of their company behind the cause as well.”
