e-Cycle Launches Nationwide Campaign to Reuse and Recycle for Autism Speaks

e-Cycle, the leading wireless buyback and recycling company, has partnered with Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, to launch Reuse and Recycle for Autism Speaks, a philanthropic wireless recycling campaign. The campaign begins April 1, during Autism Awareness Month, and will run through June 30, 2014. As part of the initiative, e-Cycle is asking businesses and organizations to donate their mobile phone buyback revenue to Autism Speaks through the e-Cycle Foundation.

Organizations may also donate used iPads through the campaign. Donated iPads will be wiped of all data using e-Cycle’s rigorous data security processes to be repurposed for Autism Speaks initiatives. iPads have proven to be an especially useful tool for improving communication, motor, and cognitive skills for individuals living with autism. They are portable, customizable, and the touchscreen is more accessible for children who have learning or coordination difficulties.

e-Cycle is kicking off its campaign by donating iPads to Nationwide Children’s Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, a member of Autism Speaks’ Autism Treatment Network. In addition, e-Cycle will maximize the amount of money raised for Autism Speaks through wireless buyback by contributing an additional $2 for every device received through the campaign between April 1 and June 30.

“Through our partnership with Autism Speaks, we’re providing businesses and organizations a means to make a difference on multiple levels,” said Tonia Irion, e-Cycle President. “They not only have the opportunity to protect the environment by recycling their enterprise wireless devices, but they also can support efforts to improve the lives of those on the autistic spectrum.”

“Autism Speaks is excited to join in this new partnership with e-Cycle as we kick off Autism Awareness Month in April,” said Alec M. Elbert, Autism Speaks’ chief strategy and development officer. “The donation of iPads has become one of our most popular and effective programs because of their value as a communication tool for kids and adults with autism.”

During the campaign, the e-Cycle Foundation will coordinate the tax-deductible mobile buyback donations for e-Cycle’s clients and write a check directly to Autism Speaks on their behalf.

The E-Waste Impact of Tablet Programs In Schools

Revenue Recovery and Recycling are Essential to Device Management Policies

By 2016, the tablet to student ratio is estimated to reach 1:1. This movement is predicted to drastically improve education, but without an end-of-life management plan in place, it could cause catastrophic harm to the environment.

There are currently 55.2 million students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade in the United States. If each student is given one device and it is replaced every three years, each student will use 4.3 devices during their 13-year education. In all, that’s 237.5 million devices being utilized by students.

Unfortunately, 60% of school technology coordinators don’t have an end-of-life management plan, according to FundingFactory. Without a plan, these devices will either collect dust in a closet or be thrown into a landfill. The result is a loss of potential revenue and an abundance of pollution in the environment.

Educational institutions that don’t sell their devices to a responsible recycler are forfeiting a huge opportunity to put money back into their budgets. If only one device per student was recycled, schools could recover approximately $331 million.

In addition to the monetary incentive, it’s necessary to recycle mobile devices in order to protect the environment and future generations. Cell phones and tablets contain toxic metals including lead, mercury and cadmium. These toxins can leak into the groundwater and cause detrimental damage to the environment if they are not properly recycled.

Meeting the predicted surge of devices in the education sector with a solid end-of-life management plan is essential to protecting the environment. To ensure you recoup the maximum value of your mobile devices and that your end-of-life devices are not sent to a landfill, develop a plan that includes partnering with an e-Stewards recycler. The e-Stewards certification is the most stringent and globally recognized standard for electronic recyclers.

e-Cycle’s Apple iPhone Buyback Program Provides the Best Option to Recycle Used Devices

With Apple’s launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, several trade-in programs have become available in the marketplace that will allow you to trade-in or recycle your old iPhone to purchase the new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c at a discounted price. But are these trade-in and recycling programs really the best deal? It is important to carefully research each iPhone trade-in and recycling program to ensure it is a good fit.

e-Cycle’s iPhone / Mobile Phone Buyback Program May be the Best Option for You

  • Higher pricing: e-Cycle offers up to $350 for iPhone devices. e-Cycle buys more than 400 mobile phones and tablets for top dollar.
  • Spending freedom: e-Cycle pays you by check, not store credit like most trade-in programs. You can choose where and when you want to spend the money you earn from selling your old iPhone or other mobile phone.
  • No strings attached: Many trade-in programs require you to be eligible for an upgrade or sign a new wireless carrier contract to get cash back. Take time to get comfortable with your new iPhone before selling your used iPhone for cash.
  • Fast and simple process: Why go to the store to trade-in your used mobile phones and tablets when you can quickly and easily send your iPhone from the comfort of your home? e-Cycle’s buyback program provides you with free shipping and fast payments.
  • Payments based on functionality, not cosmetics: Trade-in programs often grade devices and will pay you less than the online quoted price based on minor cosmetic flaws such as dings and scratches. e-Cycle pays you for your iPhones and other mobile phones based on functionality, not minor signs of wear.
  • Protect the environment: By selling your used iPhone or other mobile phones through e-Cycle’s e-Stewards certified buyback program you are extending the life of the device which greatly saves energy and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • All mobile phones accepted: Even if you do not have an iPhone, e-Cycle buys several types of mobile phones and tablets, including Android, BlackBerry and Windows phones.
  • Donate: e-Cycle gives you the option to donate your mobile buyback dollars through the e-Cycle Foundation. All donations are tax-deductible.

All trade-in and recycling programs offer their own benefits, but it’s important to research the best recycling program for your needs, while ensuring their private data and the environment are protected.

e-Cycle Supports the “It Can Wait” Campaign to Prevent Texting and Driving

e-Cycle is joining the It Can Wait movement to end texting and driving by encouraging all of our employees and clients to participate in Drive 4 Pledges Day on September 19, 2013.

Join the 1.8 million people that have committed to never text and drive through ItCanWait.com on Drive 4 Pledges Day. Then share your commitment to inspire others to do the same. If you believe texting and driving isn’t an issue, learn about the dangers and consequences first hand by trying the texting and driving simulator online or at an It Can Wait event.

The Facts

Sending or looking at a text, tweet, post or email from behind the wheel can be deadly. Unfortunately, the number of people texting and driving is high even though hands-free and educational resources are readily available. Recent studies have found that:

  • Commuters are the biggest offenders, with 49 percent admitting to texting while driving.
  • 98 percent of the population knows sending texts while driving is not safe, yet 50 percent of drivers do it anyway.
  • 40 percent of drivers who text while driving call it a habit.
  • Those who text while driving are 23 times more likely to crash.
  • More than 100,000 crashes each year involve drivers that are texting.
  • Teens, on average, text five times more a day than a typical adult.
  • 75% of teens say texting and driving is “common” among their friends.

Tips for breaking the habit

It Can Wait put together the following tips to help you stay true to your pledge and break your dangerous texting and driving habit:

  • Download the AT&T Drive Mode App– This mobile app will automatically reply to incoming messages with a customizable text to let people know you are driving and will respond later.
  • Assign a Designated Texter – Let your passengers respond to incoming texts for you.
  • Out of Sight, Out of Mind – Put your phone on silent mode or in a place you can’t reach while in the car.
  • Listen to music – Create a playlist or listen to the radio.
  • Call, don’t text – Use Bluetooth features to safely make urgent calls.
  • Speak up – If you see someone texting while driving, ask them to stop.

The Drive 4 Pledges Day is a nationwide effort, first launched by AT&T in 2009 that focuses on educating people about the dangers of texting and driving. Other carriers have since joined the movement, including Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile.

Together, we can all have a part in making sure that no more lives are lost. No message is so urgent that it is worth diverting attention from the road and risking lives in the process. It Can Wait.

Sell or Recycle Your Phones and Tablets with e-Cycle in April for the Chance to Win a $500 Amazon Gift Card

Celebrate Earth Day by responsibly selling or recycling your organization’s used mobile phones and tablets through e-Cycle between now and April 30, 2013 and be entered into a random drawing to win one $500 Amazon gift card.

Entering the giveaway is easy:

The EPA estimates that 150 million, or four per second, used wireless devices end up in U.S. landfills each year and that e-waste is responsible for 70 percent of the toxic substances in our landfills today. The lead leached from one cell phone’s lithium ion battery in a landfill can contaminate up to 40,000 gallons of water. e-Cycle helps businesses and organizations take a more responsible, secure and cost effective approach to wireless recycling. e-Cycle collects used cell phones and tablets from businesses and major organizations, reimbursing them for mobile devices that retain value and recycling others at no charge. The private data stored on these devices is permanently removed through the industry’s most rigorous data deletion process.

In January 2012, e-Cycle became the first mobile phone buyback and recycling company in the world to become e-Stewards Certified. e-Stewards is the globally recognized certification that e-Cycle consistently upholds the highest standards for responsible recycling and reuse of electronic equipment, worker safety and data security. e-Cycle maintains a strict zero landfill policy. Tips for Businesses to Safely Sell their Used Apple iPhones® and iPads® When Upgrading to the New Apple iPhone 5 | e-Cycle

As businesses and organizations upgrade to the new Apple iPhone 5 or iPad, everyday thousands of used mobile devices will be replaced. What happens to these outdated iPhones and iPads? Many will end up collecting dust in desk drawers, storage closets or even worse, local landfills. However, these used devices still retain a significant portion of their original value, even after 18 to 24 months of use. Wireless asset recovery and recycling companies purchase these used iPhones from businesses to help them greatly offset the cost of upgrading to the latest iOS technologies. In addition, certified mobile buyback companies protect the sensitive business data contained on these devices and ensure the hazardous chemicals inside do not end up in landfills.

Choosing the right iPhone buyback and recycling company is an important business decision that should not be taken lightly and there are several factors that organizations should consider when selling their used iPhones.

1. Don’t be a victim of bait-and-switch iPhone or iPad pricing.  Make sure the company doesn’t grade on the condition of your device.
When selling used enterprise iPhones and iPads, businesses should be skeptical of iPhone asset recovery companies offering extremely high buyback pricing. Research the pricing deductions and find out if payments are reduced for cosmetic flaws. Many consumer-driven buyback companies sell used iPhones on eBay and take substantial price reductions for scratches, cracks in the housing, scuff marks, water-damage indicators and other aesthetic flaws on the device. e-Cycle purchases used Apple iPhones and iPads based solely on the functionality of the device.

2. Read the terms and conditions and ensure your mobile recycling company takes responsibility for complete data removal.
Many iPhone buyback and recycling companies claim “complete mobile data deletion and protection,”however, the fine print in their terms and conditions will state that they take no responsibility for deleting the private data contained on the devices. Be sure to sell your iPhone to a certified company that guarantees specific mobile data wiping processes, quality assurance practices, facility security, employee screening policies and liability insurance. e-Cycle provides the industry’s highest standards and practices for deleting and protecting your private mobile data.

3. Make sure they offer free recycling of broken iPhones and other used cell phones and that they are e-Stewards® certified.
Before selling used iPhones and iPads, businesses need to investigate every aspect of data security and recycling processes of their recycling partners. Certified cell phone recyclers should conduct business in an environmentally responsible manner and offer transparent business practices to their clients, partners and the community. When shipping phones, batteries and accessories to downstream vendors, these partners will maintain similar green processes. Partnering with an e-Stewards Certified mobile buyback and recycling company ensures your recycler maintains the highest standards for environmental responsibility, worker safety and data security. e-Cycle is the first mobile buyback and recycling company to achieve e-Stewards Certification. Maintaining a zero landfill policy, e-Cycle offers free iPhone cell phone recycling for any device that is nonfunctional or does not have resale value.

When selling used iPhones, businesses should not make decisions based exclusively on price. If not properly processed, the private company data contained on these devices could be exposed. Companies need to implement a strategic and secure method for recycling outdated iPhones and iPads that will not only protect their telecom budgets but also their sensitive information. e-Cycle offers the safest way for businesses to sell their used iPhones and upgrade the new Apple iPhone 5. Helping organizations take a more responsible, secure and profitable approach to wireless mobile phone recycling, e-Cycle buys used iPhones, iPads and other mobile devices from businesses, reimbursing them for devices that retain value and recycling all others at no charge. The information on every phone is either deleted or destroyed using the industry’s most rigorous data security measures. Apple Now Selling Unlocked iPhone 4s – Upgrade to the Latest Unlocked Apple iPhone 4 Through e-Cycle’s Corporate iPhone 4 Buyback Program | e-Cycle

Apple is now offering all the features of the iPhone 4 with the option to activate the device on the GSM wireless carrier of your choice. This new iPhone provides the ideal solution for users who do not want a multi-year service contract or prefer using local carriers when traveling abroad. In addition, e-Cycle can help your organization upgrade to the latest iPhone technology by providing asset recovery for your company’s used mobile phones.

In the past, the iPhone 4 has been sold with a micro-SIM card or a small memory card that stores user wireless account information. The unlocked iPhone 4 will arrive without a micro-SIM card and users will simply obtain a micro-SIM directly from a GSM carrier.

GSM or Global System Mobile Communications is an industry standard and is used by most carriers around the world. Buying an unlocked iPhone 4 allows users to choose their own GSM carrier and because they are not committed to a long-term contract, GSM users have the ability to change carriers at any time. The unlocked iPhone 4 will also work with GSM carriers worldwide. Frequent travelers can even use multiple carriers.

For companies making the switch to the new unlocked iPhone 4, e-Cycle’s Apple iPhone buyback service delivers a simple solution for an upgrade. Not only will e-Cycle purchase your organization’s used iPhones, but also provide complimentary mobile data security and recycling services. e-Cycle data security experts will evaluate each device, erase all sensitive data and responsibly recycle all non-functioning mobile phones at no charge to the customer.

e-Cycle works with nearly 7,000 organizations nationwide, including some of the largest companies in the world. Since its inception in 2005, our company has purchased or recycled more than seven million wireless devices.
